About the First Look
What is a First Look?
A First Look is a design direction for your website, created before you commit to anything. We look at your business, work out where the opportunities are, and put together a real concept you can see and react to.
It isn't a proposal, a mood board, or a description you have to imagine. It's the actual design direction, so you're deciding based on something you've seen rather than something you've been told.
Do I pay before seeing the concept?
No. That's the entire point of how we work. You see the design direction first, then decide whether you want to move forward. No invoice before you've seen anything.
Is the First Look a finished website?
No. There's a real difference here. A First Look is a design direction: what your site could look like. It shows the layout, the visual approach, the structure, and the feel.
A finished website is the full build: every page, working forms, mobile layouts, the technical setup, and the launch. The First Look is how you decide whether you want that built.
What happens if I like it?
We talk about completing and launching the website. You'll know what's involved and what it costs before anything else happens, you've already seen the work, so the conversation is about logistics rather than persuasion.
What happens if I don't like it?
Nothing. You've lost nothing, and there's no obligation. We'd rather show you the work and have you say no than have you commit blind and regret it.
Can I request changes?
Yes. Your reaction to the First Look is useful. If the direction is close but something is off, that's exactly the kind of feedback that makes the finished site better.
Remember that a First Look is a direction, not a finished product. So your feedback at this stage shapes the build. During the project, changes are part of the normal process.
After the site is finished and delivered, further revisions are separate work and are billable. That isn't a penalty for asking, it just reflects that the one-time design fee covers the project as scoped and invoiced. We'll always tell you the cost before doing anything.
Your Business
Can you redesign my current website?
Yes, and it's one of the most common things we do. Plenty of businesses have a site that worked fine five years ago and now looks dated, loads slowly, or doesn't work properly on a phone.
Send us the current site and we'll look at what's working, what's getting in the way, and what a First Look at the new direction could be. You don't have to lose everything, the parts that work can carry over.
Can you build a site for a new business?
Yes. New businesses are the other common case, and often the simpler one. There's no legacy structure to work around and no existing design decisions to unpick. We start with what the business does and who it serves, and build from there.
Do you design logos?
Logos aren't a standalone service. They're provided by you, or created as part of a website project when one is needed.
Most of our clients arrive with a logo already, on a van, a sign, or a folder of files from years ago. We make it work properly on the website. If what you have won't work online (a low-resolution image, no transparent version, something that disappears on a coloured background), we sort that out as part of the project. If you have nothing yet, we create a mark as part of building the site, enough to launch with and grow on.
Can you help with content?
Yes. You know your business better than we ever will, but you don't need to write the copy yourself. Tell us about the business: what you do, who you serve, what makes people choose you. We'll shape that into the site.
If you already have content, we'll work with it and organise it better. Often the problem isn't missing content, it's content that's all crammed into one page with no structure.
Search & Visibility
Can you help with Google visibility?
We build the foundation properly: clear structure, semantic headings, a dedicated page for each service, mobile-first design, and consistent business information. Those are the things that make a site easy for search engines to understand.
What nobody can honestly promise is a ranking. Anyone guaranteeing you the number one spot is selling something they don't control. Competition, geography, and algorithms all change without warning. What we can do is remove the technical reasons you're being overlooked, and build a site that genuinely deserves to rank.
Can you structure the site for AI search?
Yes, and it matters more every year. AI assistants and modern search systems don't browse your site, they read it, parsing your headings, your service pages, and your structured data to work out what you do and who you do it for.
We build with that in mind: a logical page structure, real heading hierarchy, structured data that spells out your business in machine-readable form, and clear answers to the questions people actually ask. The same clarity that helps a search system helps a human skimming the page.
Will my site work on phones?
Yes, it's designed on a phone first, then scaled up. Most local searches happen on a mobile device, so the mobile experience is the primary design rather than a shrunken-down afterthought.
Practical Questions
Can you set up business email for me?
Yes. We set up business email as part of the website project, so it matches your domain. Records configured, mailboxes created, and tested before launch.
We also recommend it, and we'll say why plainly: a paid email service attached to your domain looks more established, supports proper spam filtering and account protection, and gives you an address that belongs to the business rather than to a personal account.
It's a paid service billed separately from the website. We'll give you the current cost before anything is set up.
Can I use my existing domain?
Yes. You keep your domain. We point it at the new site. If you don't have one yet, we can help you find and set one up as part of the project.
The domain is registered in your name and you are responsible for keeping it renewed. Let the registration lapse and you could lose the domain. Keep that payment current.
Who owns the finished website?
The website is built for your business, the design, the content, and the brand are yours. Your domain is registered in your name, too.
One thing we won't dress up: the site runs on our platform and cannot be moved to another host. Owning your website and being able to move it are two different things. You should know that before you sign, not after.
Do I have to host with you?
Yes. Hosting is required for the site to stay live, and it's paid by the year. If hosting isn't paid, the website goes offline.
Hosting is set up on autopay, so it renews without you having to remember. Costs can change from year to year, and we'll always give you the current hosting cost at the time of service rather than quoting a figure that goes stale.
If you've had a website built elsewhere, this works the same way. A site built on one provider's platform generally cannot be picked up and moved to another. Ours is no different.
What does hosting cover?
Hosting keeps the website online and looked after, the server it runs on, the security and maintenance behind it, and the technical side of keeping it working properly. It's billed yearly and set up on autopay so the site stays live for the full term.
What if I want to cancel?
We ask for 60 days' notice. That isn't a formality, it gives us time to put together any offboarding information you need for connected services, such as email set up alongside your domain.
It's worth building that into your plans rather than cancelling at short notice, so nothing you rely on gets cut off while it's still being handed over.
What does the price include?
The initial quote is a one-time design fee covering the project as scoped and itemised on your invoice. It doesn't include anything beyond that.
Work outside the project scope is billable. That covers revisions after the site is delivered, changes to the domain, email configuration, offboarding, and anything added later. We'll tell you the cost before we do anything.
No ongoing services are included unless we've agreed them with you in writing for a monthly or yearly investment. Hosting is required to keep the site online, but that's a hosting charge rather than a service agreement.
Still not sure?
Ask us directly.
No question is too basic, and we'd rather answer it now than have you guess. Tell us about your business and we'll take it from there.
